Advertising

ADVERTISING
This is the art of communicating to potential consumers to buy a product or service. The first logical step is to generate consumer interest by enticing these would-be buyers with commercials that try to promote the benefits of buying a particular product or service. This “art” of advertising is designed to develop brand or product loyalty among consumers by stressing those benefits. Interestingly, not only commercial products or services avail of advertising. Political parties, non-profit organizations and religious organizations also resort to advertising to promote their ideas or advocate something. This advocacy extends even to military recruiters and special-interest groups.

Advertising is big business with worldwide revenues reaching US$385 billion last year and is projected to reach some US$500 billion by 2010. Some forms of advertising are now prohibited by law. I am referring to unsolicited advertising which tends to disrupt people’s personal lives by being a nuisance to their daily activities. Examples are unsolicited e-mails called as “spam”.
